Research and development

Research & Development (R&D) in Europe is responsible for planning, developing and producing attractive, superior quality cars. In this way, they match European market requirements and uphold the proud reputation of Toyota & Lexus in Europe.

Currently, there are over 500 R&D engineers working in our technical centre in Brussels, a figure that will continue to rise with the ongoing increase in our vehicle development responsibilities.

Since 2004, over €75 million has been invested in our new R&D building and equipment, bringing the total investment in the Toyota Technical Centre to more than €140 million.

R&D is involved in body, powertrain, chassis and electronics part design, the selection and testing of materials and components, engine evaluation, and the tuning of the drivability characteristics of all Toyota models.
